Let me introduce you to one of the best whey protein bars that I have found on the market with this Biotech Zero Bar product review – high protein low carb bar.

Sometimes when I’m out and about or a trip/errand takes a bit longer than expected, I hear my stomach talking to me. Right then, I’ll be on the lookout for quick high protein snacks to keep the hunger at bay. Let’s face it, I’m not going to want to go through the ordeal of going in somewhere for a bite to eat when I’m about 10-20 minutes away from my own nutritious healthy meal at home! Low calorie protein snacks are the way forward when you find yourself in such situations.

Additionally, if you do on occasion find yourself short for a good post-workout food, it would substitute as one of your after workout protein snacks. Saying that, please take note of the guidelines in good post-workout foods.

I’ve been on the hunt for good tasting protein bars for a while now, and one of my ultimate favourites are the BioTech USA iso whey zero protein bars.

BioTech Zero Bars, protein bars, high protein snacks

Product description

Made of their high-quality native whey protein isolate, this BioTech bar is free of chemicals and other various pollutants that you may find in other lower-quality protein bars.

Biotech USA have managed to make these low calorie protein snacks suitable for people with certain intolerances:

  • Glucose-free
  • Lactose-free
  • No added aspartame
  • Free from added sugar

There are naturally occurring sugars present, however, they are a low sugar low carb protein bar, meaning they may be suitable for diabetics.

This protein bar is made in a plant that manufactures milk, egg, gluten, soy, crustaceans, sulfur dioxide and nuts containing foods. As always, please check the allergies section of the product to ensure it is suitable for you to consume.

Nutritional information

1 one bar (50 g) contains:

  • 177 kcal
  • 20 g protein*
  • 5.5 g carbohydrate
    • of which sugars: 0.45 g
    • of which polyols: 3.25 g
  • 7.5 g fat
  • 6 g fibre
  • 0.25 g salt
  • 4.15 mg Vitamin E

The nutritional value of these bars can’t be faulted! With low fat, low sugar and high protein content, all in addition to a whopping 6g fibre, this bar is bound to leave you feeling satisfied without the guilt! With only 0.45g sugar per bar, it’s one of the lowest sugar protein bars available.

The product is also uncoated, meaning that it fits in the low sugar low carb protein bars list. This also means you can eat it more or less silently, as there’s no crunching noise from the coating.

    Pros

Good tasting protein bars: With some protein bars, it feels like chewing on a boot and my jaw is ready to fall off after a few bites. Thankfully, that’s not the case with this bar though. Depending on the flavour you go for, they are sprinkled with nuts (e.g. chocolate-hazelnut) or little chocolate balls throughout which adds a delightful texture and flavour to the bar.

Great variety of flavours: It comes in over 11 flavours, which means you may never get bored of eating them! I’ve ranked below in order of personal preference*:

    • apple pie
    • chocolate-mint
    • chocolate-banana
    • chocolate-hazelnut
    • chocolate-coconut
    • chocolate chip cookies
    • cappuccino
    • chocolate-caramel
    • chocolate-marzipan
    • double chocolate
    • chocolate-plum

*I have been known to receive backlash for my unpopular rating of various bars, e.g. Bounty bars are high on my favourites list, so please exercise caution when observing my protein bar ranking above!

I believe there are actually even more special flavours available, so keep an eye out for those.

Why not try a BioTech Zero Bar mixed box to discover your favourite flavour!

Size: Coming in at 50g, and with the high protein content and high fibre protein bar, it’s bound to leave you feeling satisfied and keep the hunger at bay.

Low calories: These are one of the lowest calorie protein bars I’ve been able to find, so much so, it could nearly be classified as one of those low fat protein snacks. The ability to achieve this is due to the lack of coating on the bar itself. This makes these excellent protein snacks for women and men looking for a low calories snack.

    Cons

I’ve sometimes noticed that if I store this high protein low carb bar in warm areas, it does tend to get a little oily. Fortunately, this doesn’t interfere with the taste or overall texture of the bar. I just wipe it off with a paper towel if I have one nearby.

It’s also worth noting that I would be used to eating high protein snack bars frequently so I’m used to the flavour. However, for someone who prefers a strong sweet flavour or are accustomed to eating regular chocolate bars, they may not be as satisfied with the taste. This is something you get used to and honestly differs from one person to another! What I would suggest is to try the Biotech Zero protein bars a couple of times before you settle on an opinion. These are one of the lowest sugar protein bars available, and the flavour must come from somewhere, namely sweeteners: stevia, sucralose and sugar alcohol.

    Price

Typically they are purchased in quantities of 12+, meaning that they work out cheaper than individually buying the bars. The price is relatively good, especially when bought in bulk. They are typically sold in boxes of 20 bars with the cost per box of 20 bars ranging from approximately €28.46 (€1.42c per bar) to €38.97 (€1.94 per bar). Anything under the €2.50 mark is exceptional value for money in my eyes when it comes to protein bars.

    Conclusion

Overall, this product gets the thumbs up from me. It has a huge amount of protein, low sugar, low calories and low carbs, all compacted into a neat 50g bar! Not to mention the exceptional price; you’d easily spend the same, if not MORE, on a regular chocolate bar with none of the benefits! These are definitely excellent high protein snack bars suitable for the healthy conscious people and those looking for a snack without blowing all of their calories on a regular bar. I personally love them as an afternoon snack to keep the munchies away.

    • Quick convenient protein snack suitable to eat at any time of the day, especially useful when you’re in a rush
    • High-quality protein content
    • One of the lowest calorie protein bars available, great for people on a fat loss mission
    • Exceptional value for money when bought in bulk
    • Healthy alternative to chocolate (lower sugar)
    • Good taste with a good variety of flavours
    • May not be suitable for people with certain allergies

      Hey,

Great post. I have cut down on my carbs lots this year, and I have only really been eating protein. However, when you are just purchasing protein, it can be a bit pricey. But this bar looks like it could really help me because of the price.

I’m going to start purchasing these, and I’ll let you know how I get on.

      Thanks for sharing.

      All the best,

      Tom

        Hi Tom,

Yes I do agree, but I guess you’re paying for quality products which, in the long run, should contribute to overall general health and wellbeing. So consider it an investment into your health!

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the bars when you try them!

        Best wishes,
        Sharon

This is a great product review. When I am on the fly, it is difficult to find something healthy, nutritious and that curbs my hunger pangs. This seems to fit all the bills. Thanks again for all the information

        Sharon · 22/02/2020 at 2:34 PM

        H Mariella,

Yes it can be depending if you’re near good shops or not! I sometimes throw one into my bag and have it as a backup.

        Regards,
        Sharon

I found out from my doctor that I wasn’t eating enough protein in my diet. Probably because I’ve been working out with weight 5 days a week, in addition to various other activities I do in the gym.

The information you provided in biotech zero bar product is perfect timing for me. I need a bar with high protein to increase the protein I’m getting in my diet. This is the bar I’ll start with. Thanks, Bob

        Hi Bob,

That’s rather interesting, considering most people these days are nearly on the other spectrum of consuming too much protein! I’m glad this post has been of assistance and I’d love to hear your feedback on the bars!

Great review! I’m always looking for new protein bars to try. I will have to try this one as a lot of the ones I’ve tried are high in sugar and the ones that aren’t haven’t tasted the best. It’s hard to find ones that check all the boxes. But, as a busy mom, it’s always great to have these handy snacks in the purse! Thanks for the info.

        Sharon · 23/02/2020 at 4:21 PM

        Hi Carla,

Yes I feel your pain. That or they’re rather high in calories. I know you could eat half the bar, but I generally don’t have the willpower for that kind of thing!

Would love to hear how you get on with the bars!

        Sharon
