Chopping gadgets

We’ve all been there; scrolling through the internet and you spot a meal that you’d like to try, only to be left disheartened by the fact that you don’t own the equipment to make the food. This recently occurred to me when I wanted to make sweet potato chips, but the recipe required a mandolin slicer to get the chips thin enough.

If you’re planning on investing in a food chopper to avoid such scenarios and also to make chopping up food easier and healthier, then it makes sense to purchase a multi-purpose unit which can cut foods in more than one way. This Amazon Choice multi-functional food chopper is a prime example of a multi-purpose chopping unit. With this gadget, you can cut foods in an array of methods to cater for virtually any meal idea you have in mind:

  • dicing small sided
  • dicing medium sized
  • dicing large sized
  • egg separator
  • fine grater
  • grater
  • mandolin slicing
  • shredding
  • julienning

Nobody wants to endure a cut, or worse, when cooking; we’ve all been there and it’s not a pleasant experience anyone wishes to relive. This unit also has the important bonus of keeping your hands safe and free from injury. It also provides you with double hand protection, so when you’re dicing or slicing, you have both a glove and an attachment to hold the food you are chopping.

Examples of foods this can be used for includes:

  • homemade fries
  • vegetable chips

Con: Unfortunately, it doesn’t spiralize food, but hopefully they’ll add a spiralizer attachment to the unit in the near future.

Salad gadgets

For any salad enthusiasts, you’ll know the struggles associated with trying to perfectly dry salad leaves and herbs. It’s particularly important to thoroughly dry salad leaves if you plan to use them for your work lunch or won’t be eating them straight away. The last thing you want is wilted leaves, and this can occur rather easily since water can lodge in the small crevices and grooves of salad leaves, especially lettuce.

Thankfully, you can eliminate the risk of a soggy salad and the effort of drying leaves with the OXO Salad Spinner which is the number 1 best-selling salad spinner on Amazon. With a simple pump and break mechanism, water effortlessly goes flying from the leaves and herbs, and you’re left with crisp, dry ingredients.

Tip: Did you know you can dry other foods in a salad spinner? For instance sweet potato fries, draining excess water from pasta and even washing berries.

I personally love the manual spiralizer anyway as it just ticks all the boxes in terms of functionality, size, ease of use and cleaning and it received excellent reviews.

HI Sharon,

Another really interesting and informative article. I love the salad gadgets. If there is one thing I am rubbish at, it is making salads for my lunch at work. I have been working from home a lot so I haven’t been eating that many salads, but I need to get back onto it. Your gadgets just might help me.

I will let you know if I invest in them and if they help me or not. Hopefully they will.

Thank you for sharing and keep up the amazing work.

All the best,

Thank you so much for this highly informative article, Sharon! As someone who is trying to eat better these days, I definitely needed a little guidance on which gadgets to buy to help in that endeavor. One of my cousins tried to sell me a set of knives from Cutco, but they were obscenely expensive; I’m looking for quality products at an affordable price. Haha You did an excellent job of outlining some of the most important eating healthy tools; I will definitely take your tips to heart! God bless you!

    Hi there,

Glad that the post has been of benefit. The sky is the limit when it comes to the price you could pay for some gadgets. Now, while some of them are justified by their quality, lifetime guarantee or spec, there’s often an argument to be made for a middle of the road gadget too.

Thanks for visiting and commenting on my page!

I’ve never really bothered with these kinds of gadgets before, as I would rather not do all the additional cleaning up afterwards – is it really such a big chore if you use extra tools like these?

    Sharon · 18/06/2020 at 7:33 PM

    Hi Simon,

True, the cleaning is often a reason people don’t use items, I’ve tried to select items which don’t require too much effort to clean though; don’t want to be saving time preparing food only to waste it cleaning something.

That’s really your own personal opinion, some people don’t mind spending ages chopping food, others detest it.

    Best wishes,
